I see Mary Beard got a bomb threat and not a rape threat.

Funny that, I see two publicity seeking tarts.

You might as well say you will no longer use the WWW because of 4chan. If your Twitter account is associated with the kind of account that does this stuff, then you're either following the wrong people, or you're failing to block the wrong people when they follow you. If, on the other hand, you're suggesting that the mere fact of having a Twitter account somehow associates you with harassment perpetrated by others, then @Pontifex can't be looking too good either.

There's a bit of a difference between some anon hardman trashtalking in an online game as illustrated by this very informative graph

Compared with a direct threat after, as mentioned in NF's link, your personal details inc address have been posted online by some lowlife.

There's a marked difference between "I hope your kids get cancer" and "I'll be seeing your kids outside <insert accurate primary school name here>"

Both are stupid things to say but one is decidedly darker IMHO.
And I expect the threat is a crime.

There is no way twitter want to get involved with this, as soon as they put in a report button it will be used like crazy, also then twitter become partially responsible for content and blame can be put on them.

They will just make some noises in agreement until it all blows over.

Words do mean something. That's the purpose of arranging the letters.

That's not really an argument. Any hate speech is just sounds coming out of someone's mouth, or letters on a page or sign, but we still don't allow it. Why should Twitter be exempt?

Have to agree with this too.
I was playing Arma2 Wasteland last night, some guy got killed by another player and he sent a message straight away saying, "**** you man, I'm a gonna rape your mom".
last week, I killed some guy twice so he then said to me "I hope your mother contracts lung cancer". He thought about it for a few seconds and came back with "terminal".

    It IS pretty depressing.
