Something completely different. People I have worked for before. Sometimes I run two (or occasionally three) gigs at once, but am enjoying the time off right now.

Good for you. Turns out I couldn't touch this partime one due to conflict of interest. But fronting it for my mate has just landed me a shot at a very nice gig no more than an hour up the road on another 100 a day on my current rate. Think I might have to jump ship early if this comes off

I think contracting is many thing for many people but I can never resist the urge to earn money if its there...

My wife and I have worked hard all our careers, and done well enough in the past 18 years, to be able to be mortgage free this year. We don't have a sizable warchest, as we spent most making sure we could be debt free for once. However, it's enough for a few months off, and I believe strongly enough in my ability that when I do want to go back, I will find something fairly quickly. If not, well, I'll worry about that then. Life really is too short to worry about silly things, and it's only the past few years this is really coming home to me. My age I guess...

I'm back in the client office after a couple of weeks, and a contractor who started four weeks ago is no longer on site. Apparently he got called out on stuff that was on his CV that he seemed to have no skill in. As soon as it became apparent, he ran off site.

Wish me old man would think like that. He ain't rich but hes got enough in the bank that its never going to get spent. But will he hell - he'd rather struggle than spend any money at all. To be honest, its like monopoly money to him - I aint ever going to be like that!

Just turned down a 2 day per week 6 monther, so I can carry on at 3 days per week through the summer (actually have an x days per y months contract that averages 3 days per week so I can take it easy in the summer and then make up for lost time in the winter).

It's what made me do it to be honest; I looked outside forst thing, kids were fooking about, sports day tomorrow then they're off, and thought if I can't do it as a contractor, when can I do it. They're not going to enjoy being around me when they're teenagers, so enjoy it now. It's only money.

I just woke up, thought what's the point of a wonderful summer if you really can't enjoy it, and quit my contract. In truth, I have been thinking of it lots, and whilst it is working from home 95/100%, I still can't really enjoy it, and was working too hard, on a project I didn't really care for. So, regardless, it's 6-10 weeks off with the kids, then I'll look, can't wait. All houses sold, so no more mortgages to pay, moving in August, so fook it, summer off with the kids it is.

Good for you mate. If you can afford to do it why not. Never seen the point of accumulating money for the sake of it......

Im in contract until end of August then planning a few weeks off and then hol end september. So it looks like I'll be working through the heatwave. Looks like some long shift days too and the rate is v good (hopefully with increased rate of 1.5 for shifts)

Not ideal with new baby - would have been nice to stay home with her for a bit. BUT, warchest ain't that massive (although its OK). I know I wouldnt have enjoyed holiday knowing I'd be on the bench in october. At least this way, its a nice little earner, it can pay for holiday and then give me flexibility to chill for a month or two later.

Mind you think it would have been hard for me to knock back a WFH contract like that!!!!
