Personally I look forward with anticipation for the annual unearthing of the latest village idiot. There have been some corkers: OBL, HHH, Chico, Mailman. I'm sure I've missed a few though ...

How many ways can you commentate on?

    1/ Hating New Labour
    2/ Woe is me
    3/ House prices
4/ The amazement that women sometimes will talk to geeks
5/ White van man style stereotyping

    Have I missed anything?

This site has been the same everyday for the last several years. Comment on that!

You mean before IR35? Those were the days...

Why do we need a commentator btw? You won't find much on here worthy of a commentary - not since the football match which ended rather embarrassingly in the "gingham dress" incident...

Wasn't sure if this was a joke as Franko was mentioned....But who cares if the rates are not the same as in the good ol "boom days" I'm doing fine, and I don't expect money or contracts to land in my lap....I work at it, so it's all up to the individual.
Coal mining isn't what it was!

Rumour has it current contract rates are not that much lower than those in glory days of Y2k bug, which I think (but not sure as I was permie at the time) were historically highest rates.

    There's still time...

I've started to put together the piece for this afternoon, but there's still time if you have an opinion about the "glory days," of IT contracting.

For what it's worth, I think the rise of component based architectures and software services are de-skilling software development and thereby suppressing contract rates. I don't think there will ever be a return to the high rates of the late nineties.

Please PM if you have some ideas.

    Cheers

Honestly you lot are like a pack of hyenas when someone new appears - poor blokes probably sitting in a corner absolutely terrified now - shame on you all

I thought he was a journalist, in which case he's probably shaking in a corner absolutely pissed now, desperately searching for that pint bottle he always keeps hidden about his person.

Only joshing, we all trust and respect the fourth estate (fifth column more like).

NOTE FOR THE HARD OF etc.

Well W, Welcome to the board.

How do we address you - W. is so impersonal, is it not?

Will, Willy, William, Bill, Billy or just Tit?

Edit: Ah, just read to the end of his post. William it is then!

Do you chaps ever look at the front page?

If it is the same W. Knight then he has already taken one of our conversations and put it on the front http://www.contractoruk.com/002761.html.

I hope he understands the general forum is generally full of crap!

William Knight is a good journalist whose presence on this board is akin to ray of light in the dungeon. How do I know? Well, he wrote about SKA!

So kids, try to behave like mature people for a change and if you got nothing useful to say then don't say it at all.
