Previously on "Tax efficient umbrella needed for a 6 month contract in central europe."
I think the only really tax efficient thing you can do is leave Europe and go to somewhere like Dubai. Not easy unless you have a sponsor, but trying to avoid taxes in Europe is becoming nearly impossible because we have governments who are in debt, economies in chronic decline, governments who refuse to reform and cut themelves down to size and voters who think that anyone earning a little bit more than themselves should be dragged back down into the gutter by the taxman and made to pay for the life choices of other people, so anything you do outside of the ordinary, even if it's apparently legal, will probably end up costing you money as governments are quite happy to throw away the rule of law and hit you retrospectively if they need the money. See the section 58 threads for an example and see my sig for what I think of it all.
I think it's a shame the OP has been banned for asking these questions, but I can understand if admin fears the site might be viewed by Hector.
The other option is my personal preference and illustrates W Churchill's point (in my sig) very well; leave money in your Ltd until you need it, work less and don't pay yourself more than the top tax rate threshold.
On the whole you tax yourself where you do the work. Many "tax efficient" solutions are simply illegal particularly the ones where you pay little tax. You usually end up paying a lot more tax in the end.
Although you might think you have a lot of flexibility about how you can arrange your tax affairs, generally this is not the case, and anyone offering you a low tax solution should be treated with a great deal of scepticism.
Only Britain and Ireland operate what we call an umbrella company. In France you can operate through what is known as a Portage Salarial. Working in one of the other european countries requires using a management company
Umbrella companies are reasonably cheap and charge per week whereas management companies are farely expensive and average about €500 per month. The reason they are so expensive is that they normally sub-contract to a local specialist or accountant so the fee should include local accounting
I worked in the Netherlands through AFS and the local accountant completed my tax form, applied for my 30% ruling etc at no extra costs
A good management company should give two options:-
You work as their employee
They set you up as self employed ie Belgium or freiberuf in Germany
I worked in Switzerland through V5 which only operates in Switzerland but I have yet to find another local management company operating in only one single country.Just decline any doubious split income option
