Stayed at Le Royal Meridian for a few days. Can really comment on Dubai much as I didn't do much exploring and I sat on my bum the whole time. Folks go twice a year and love it!

Re Atlantis, it's nice but it's miles away from everything - used to be expensive in a taxi but now they have the metro thingy - it's easier to get in and out of the city.

You can drink in Dubai just fine... but do it in the hotels and approved areas... don't turn up to a beach with a bunch of tinnies!

If you manage not to behave like an English football tourist you'll be fine.
