I don't know what the iPad version is like, but MyDinos is in very much the same vein as ClubPenguin.

I thought Moshi Monsters and Club Penguin where some of the better sites for children, I know the chat rooms of Habbo Hotel was shut down after a C4 investigation. I guess the adage of keeping an eye on what your children do online is still the best way, the kids mum signed up to Moshi Monsters so she can see what it is like, and in the end she became hooked playing the game herself

We let them on it, on their own, but then they'd come and say lucy131 wants to be friends, or such like and immediately you know, there's something not right, so we simply said sorry kids, you can't go on, and they don't. Possibly a parenting paradigm of ours, but we want to trust them, and do hark on about building trust, and not lying, so they know they get lots of liberties, by being honest. So far, it's worked out well.

The problems we have had, are with moshi moshlings rooms, and pengiun rooms, which seem full of ne'er do wells and peados. That was when they used the laptop, and desktops to play. Luckily, it doesn't work on iPads, or didn't on iOS5, and they haven't tried it since.

I'm about to set up OpenDNS. Looks just the ticket - control at the router level. I'd be interested to hear any opinions on it.

My two year old uses my iPad all the time. It has a decent case (Marware Hybrid) and screen protector. No damage yet expect for the time I gave her my stylus and she found the exact angle (I could hardly replicate it) required to scratch the screen protector No big deal just replaced the screen protector (£30 though!)
Other than that no issues with her using it and she can fully work it on her own. Quite amazing really. I just think the ones aimed at kid are terrible. And you can by some really good cases to stop them destroying your iPad so if you can afford it why not ?
