I'm not sure I'd give much heed to endorsements, isn't it just "Bob says Paul really can use Java, it's not a big fat lie"?
Recommendations are far more valuable, they're also relatively hard to get because they take time to write. A nice collection of LI recommendations is a good thing to nurture.

They are linked with other sites so you can give them permission to trawl your email address book. They then send out link to messages to every fecker and his missus, whether they are on Linkedin or not. I imagine the reason is that storing loads of user pairs who _don't_ know each other has far more overhead than pairs of those who do.

Thing is it is still a bit of a farce isn't it, just because someone endorses you for a particular skill it doesn't mean you're any good. Funny how they never thought to add an "Actually, I meant to ignore you, now piss off" button to such reminders).
