Previously on "Boomed, and then chucked a boiling hot fresh cup of tea all over me cream crackers."
I don't really want to share who it is, as some people on this forum may well be contracted to their suppliers
But it's a major multinational charity that's a household name.
An example of horribleness of some businesses is that they have been sold software that they could have got at 20% the price , direct from the supplier - as they give 80%+ discounts to charities. These guys give them 10% off the usual RRP and then CHARGE them to install it, trousering the 90%+
It happened by chance, I went to them looking for a 3 month voluntary stint as a "field agent" working in the front line in a developing nation. The market was slow and I needed to get out of the corporate world and feel like I'm doing something to help - rather than just preaching in forums. Once they saw some of my past clients, I was invited to talk to the I.T. department.
It's not a usual area for me, but its the last area I'll work in at this level - so when I move into my next specialism I'll have experience in Public sector, Finance, Small Buiness, Not For Profit / Charity and Multinational Blue chip.
After this I'm hoping to hire people and hopefully ride an "insourcing" wave....... Well it doesn't hurt to hope does it?
It doesn't, I operate at 50% my usual rate and run a "100% cost recovery" model - If I don't save them my rate + extra, then I go.
I've saved them 12 months worth (of my contract value) already, thus the renewal. Perhaps a little smug but, I'm going to rake them another 16 grand in savings in the next 4 weeks.
It's amazing how many outsourcing, or service providing companies properly rob unsuspecting victims like my current client.
Brillo, cheers for the smile - I'd rep you every day if the ruddy system would let us :P
