As much as its nice to be at home and you make the most of it and even have the war chest to cover you without a panic breaking out is there not an underlying anxiousness about 'when' your next job might turn up which just takes the edge just very slighly off being completely comfortable being off and enjoying it?
When I was on the bench I had lots planned and got a lot done and did enjoy it but there was this little part of me that was unsettled as obviously I never quite knew how long I would be off and it could have been ages. It meant I was never 100% settled probably only about 95% but then I suppose thats good in a way thinking about it as I'm typing this as it keeps you on your toes.

For me one of the best things about contracting is the bench time in between contracts so I can spend time at home with the kiddies. Enjoy the time not working !!

2 months on the bench, garage cleared, Lime trees pollarded, hedges trimmed, 240V installed on the yot - plus new double bed, new carpets, etc, etc, etc, decided this afternoon to eff off for a week to try it all out...
No point in contracting if you can't enjoy bench time, but have got to the stage where I would actually quite like a decent gig to moan about

seriously, good for you, these people who have to go from one contract straight to another it beyond me, i always take a month off after every contract unless its very short, its why i became a contractor in the first place
I must be the only fella here enjoying the stalled start of Summer, love it when it's bucketing down outside and I'm making cash sitting at a desk, but the odd few days when it's sunny, I could be sitting at a pavement cafe' watching the scantily-clad dollybirds strut past but I'm looking at lines of code instead, I'm seriously gnashing my teeth...Last edited by JaybeeInCUK; 1 July 2012, 20:00.
