If it wasn't for Messi then Ronaldo would get the player of the year, however hasnt Messi scored 80+ goals this season for club and country ?
They've both been ridiculously good this season. I'm sure I read somewhere that Ronaldo scored 7 hat-tricks last season alone and I was in the Nou Camp when Messi scored 5 against Leverkusen. It's one of those great rivalries where they keep pushing each other to be even better. No other players are close to them at the moment in my opinion.

    They aren't a bad side.

    I think Russ is on a wind-up.

    Nani is pretty good IMO.

Anyway it is nice to see one of the really good players actually performing well in a big tournament... in the world cup Messi & Ronaldo were both dull.

They are still negative connotations whether you can back them up or not (how exactly do you back up being petulant?).

But I never said he wasn't a great player. In fact, it was nice to see him poke Barcelona in the eye this season. It brings people back to earth who keep wetting themselves about the Catalans, how they are the greatest of all time [sic] etc.

That's not true - Liverpool have used him like that but he scored a fair few good goals when he was playing for Newcastle (one of them being against Liverpool)

Steady on lads, it was a tongue in cheek comment
