I really enjoyed a week long course on Oxford Street one warm summer. It was always pleasant to walk at least some of the way back to the hotel.

But years later, after I'd lived in Paris I got caught out by thinking tube stops were as close together as they are on Le Metro.

I used to walk from Baker St to Soho such that I despised the tube so much.

Last time I was down here I regularly walked from Fenchurch St. to Kings Cross. It's not actually as far as it sounds.

Home to client is actually only about 15 miles, but takes over an hour by public transport. I can do the same milage in the same time or less on a bike.

Well I'm off to Westminster right now to go fondle some fishing rods in Farlows and then walk back long the river.

Yes there are stations that are in reality close to each other eg Bank and Liverpool st., or Bayswater and Paddington.
But try walking in Zone 1 from Liverpool St to Victoria. Paddington to London Bridge. Notting Hill to St Pancras. Or Pimlico to Euston.

I always walk round London if I am there. It's so easy to walk around. The other day I picked up some flight tickets from Maida Vale and walked to Victoria very easily. Then went to London Bridge for Lunch, back through the city to do some shopping, then on to Covent Garden for dinner and a few drinks, before firing back to Victoria for the train home.

Ever since those nutters blew the tulip out of central london, I always walk. Had a friend injured in the bus attack, and was over on the South Bank when it happened (with my young daughter on a day out), and it put the wind up me, and ended up persuading me to move away from London altogether.

cojak has surprisingly long legs and a good stride. makes the distances seem shorter.

I used to walk from Bank to Liverpool Street each day. One day "Reclaim the Streets" had a demo, which closed Bank station. So on that day I had to get the tube.

I did actually see Bob Crowe on the tube around a month ago. Southbound victoria line at Highbury & Islington.
Needlessly to say I didn't have the bottle to call him a c**t like I should have.
