I love the idea of a self-heating cold-blooded creature whose brain is the heat source. Sounds like a good Sci-Fi element to me.Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostBeing cold blooded is the way forward for huge calorie savings. Not sure this is compatible with high intelligence though, unless the brain is large enough to heat the body by the power of thought, e.g. by solving Einstein's field equations without pen or paper.
Who can come up with the most intelligent cold blooded creature. I'll start with octopus.

Nice to see an intelligent post, sands. Unfortunately, aspects of the novel can be seen in modern society ...

I'm not sure a world full of weebles is what i'd call a winner tbh.Originally posted by d000hg View Post.In fact if we engineer everyone to be a dwarf without legs, we're on to a winner.
Why not replace energy consuming organic body parts with machines? Or go down the brain a jar route?

This, coupled with your sig makes me slightly uneasy lol....Originally posted by d000hg View PostDwarfs (or whatever the right collective term is) are smart though so conclusive proof it can be done.
What about reducing size/mass by removing unnecessary appendages like limbs? That must reduce the resources needed. In fact if we engineer everyone to be a dwarf without legs, we're on to a winner.

This was all foreseen in 1930 by Olaf Stapledon in his opus magnus, Last and First Men.

Hardly any short people, 4 foot or so, can pass a GCSE, and people a foot or so tall usually have trouble even tying their shoe laces properly.Originally posted by d000hg View PostOn the contrary, geeky geniuses are generally substantially shorter than professional sportsmen
And the Chinese are pretty short, but not known for being thicker than the rest of us!
