I had a good look through them in the shop the other day. Galaxy tab feels the most like an ipad, the asus one (TF101, not the new one) is OK but a bit plasticy, the lenovo K1 felt cheap. the Acer Iconia one was actually cheap so might be worth considering if cost is a factor.

Yes I have. It's running ICS with absolutely no isses and is very quick. Build quality is top class. Nice metal case. I got the darker one.

Why get the Galaxypad over the Asus Transformer Prime? I've got a Prime and would highly recommend. Has a proper keyboard as well. It's replaced my laptop as well as being a tablet.

Anyone bought the new iPad? I went into an aPplestore on Saturday to have a look and wasn't sure if I was looking at the newer one or not. I assume it was, but was hoping to be impressed by the screen resolution, but wasn't.

Following antisheep is just the same as following sheep.

Buy the best thing that does what you want it to do that you can afford. The brand is irrelevant.

I buy Apple goods because they're the absolute best for my requirements. Your requirements may vary. For example, I have friends who feel that Free Software is a moral imperative and will not use anything that fails to comply with the GPL; that is their prerogative, and I would not insult them by suggesting they obtain either an iOS or Windows 8 device.

If you are, however, sane and reasonable and are buying this device for a non-techie partner: get them an iPad. If you don't you'll suffer in the short, medium, and long run. To a normal person, being able to recompile the kernel is irrelevant compared to an inability to run some silly gubbins that all their friends are running on their iPads.

EDIT: oh, and that silly Flash stuff? Last year's flash in the pan. Adobe killed it; they realised they couldn't make it work. It's no longer supported on devices. Let it go.

I suggest the Andromeda Galaxy. Mind you, not as portable as the ones you've mentioned and most certainly the oldest!
