When I have work its only about £32/hr. But in this armpit having a job that pays more than £35/day is rare. Though having a job paid cash in hand and claiming JSA simultaneously is very common.

Still, as the OP said, it's not exactly great, though.

I mean, I only started on £26 an hour. But that was 1989. And I'm sure things were a wee bit cheaper back then (women & beer especially. )

That is pretty amusing. Do you have some kind of batch scheduling technology such as TWS on your CV? Maybe that's how they got confused.

Sounds about the right rate for Hatfield. My guess is it's Tesco.

    Should have gone to Waitrose.

No point whatsoever being a contractor at such insulting rates. IMO need a daily rate of £350+ to justify contracting.

Though I only used it to get experience in M$ to move away from the Unix stuff they originally got me in for, which lined me up nicely for the .Net gravy train that arrived a few years later.

So a low rate is sometimes worth considering if the role involves some degree of on the job re-skilling.

Yeah, I've seen worse, £90/day i think is the record so far. No doubt will have a legion of Bobs queueing up to take it

That's nowhere near the most ridiculous rate. For a freelancer, £20/hr isn't bad. And what they want sounds pretty unspecialised... mucking about in PHP to customise a CMS probably.
Maybe a new graduate could get it.
