Like someone said earlier in the thread a lot of the people who are sacked will just be normal staff who don't earn massive amounts or get massive bonuses. I have a friend at Lloyds TSB in Cardiff Bay and they're all waiting to hear about whether they're going to be made redundant. He's a nice guy has and family and only earns about 25-30k and he's in MI, not everyone who works in a bank is loaded.

They will be lucky of only 4000 of the 19000 are sacked. Other reports reckon more like 10000.

It won't be the ones with the big bonuses, It will be the poor workers who haven't had a raise for 5 years due to the banking crisis who are paid minimum wage and commission for selling savings products which then turn to duff rates due to the small print and they have to explain the customer why they are getting 0.000015% while Fred the Shred walks away with billions.

Many of them will be people in IT that have taken more cr*p from management and other teams than you'll have in a lifetime others will be staff that have busted their balls in very specialised business analyst jobs and will find it hard to find anything else. Not everyone in the city earns £400,000+ per year. I know that the Equities cash department is for the chop in the investment banking arm. I wonder what will happen to their 3 year deferred bonus. Glad I never went there 1 year ago when they were recruiting contractors like mad as those were the only ones who were willing to work there.

Instead of paying bonuses banks should be increasing their capital base. In current environment keeping a job in a bank should be more valuable then getting a bonus and being sacked.
    Well said.

I'd be happier if they were legally forced to pay back all bonuses and then sacked.
