I think it's high time the press were reigned in. Nobody wants to see an end to real investigative journalism but most of the bulltulip out there just trivialises news and pushes real stories off the front page. I think it's time the common man was offered a slightly more serious, intelligent and informed sort of public discourse. Who knows, it might even have some positive knock on effects.

A number of newspapers have engaged people to break the law repeatedly, but by the time there is a case / result, the general public won't care that they did it, because the celebrity-obsessed are more interested in who's shagging whom than whether corporations break the law to fulfil their requirements.
