I quite fancy the look of Cooperinliverp00l has - keep saying that the next time we're over that way we'll call in.

A nice riverside pub near where I'm staying in Cambridge closed a month ago and is now boarded up. Might just be a seasonal thing, but more likely they went bust.
Obviously a combination of the smoking man and the ridiculous disparity between pub prices and supermarket prices for booze is the killer.

Is it this one?Originally posted by pacharan View PostI was thinking that the closure of my local would leave a huge hole in my life. What I love about the pub is the fact that it's a great leveller; a place where The Lord of the Manor can talk to his dustman as an equal over a pint.
Just asking, like.

Me. I'm in the pub everyday for beer and banter.Originally posted by pacharan View PostHow many of you are regulars at a pub in which you are there for the sole purpose of drinking and engaging in a bit of badinage with your crew around the bar?

I was talking to a chap who probably earns in a year what I earn in a week. This disparity in our relative material wealth brought to bear no sense of deference from him towards me. We spoke as equals and he listened to my views on everything from Pre Raphaelite art to the art of the backward game in backgammon. The fact that he agreed with every word I said is by the by.[/QUOTE]
Now, that makes you sound like a c_nt. You're probably not, but it doesn't half come over that way.

My nearest closed down 15 years back. Next nearest went this year. Now it's either the bingo/Elvis impersonators type village club or the posh place in the next village. It's a Morlocks or Eloi sort of choice.
