I once made up an answer and the technical interviewer said he's never heard of that before and added that interviews were a learning experience for the interviewer too. I looked it up later and found I'd got it wrong. Got the gig though.

Got asked once at an interview- "What is the most important protective device on a high pressure reciprocating compressor?". The answer I gave to him was spot on, but I could tell from the blokes face that he hadn't thought of it! I asked him after I answered what he thought the answer was, he told me and I knew there and then that I hadn't got the job. The things is, I would bet that he now has his compressors set up the exact way I said! Ho hum.
