Before you contradict an old man, my fair friend, you should endeavor to understand him.

Intolerance itself is a form of egoism, and to condemn egoism intolerantly is to share it.

    George Santayana.

Little Englander is a term now applied to English people who are regarded as xenophobic and/or overly nationalistic and are often accused of being ignorant and boorish. It is frequently applied to those who are against membership of the European Union.

Not the ones I know. Years ago a lot of them did, particularly in this area as the septics were based here.

There's a dozen more. Americanisms are used in British media all the time, the second washington spouts a new phrase it's common place in the UK.

    English originality - RIP

3 or 4 litres can easily get you into trouble if it's the middle of the day with the sun beating down. Best to slip the odd alcohol frei or wasser in there as well, or a cheeky bionade.

This was done well in USSR and it must have been done extremely well in Germany that is known for its puctuality when it comes to accounting things.

Chances are not being in Hitler Youth at some point would have been deemed as being a traitor.
Yes I agree, also anyone in West of Russia after WW2 who might have met/been captured by Germans, in Solzhenitsyn's One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich (Odin' Dyen' Ivana Denisovicha) - that title translation is really poor but the missus says I'm wrong, tells of Russians in WW2 who were captured by Germans and so after the war were put in camps.

Also the was a lot of fuss when Gagarin was chased for Vostok-1 because he was from Smolensk and had been involved in guerrilla fighting against the Germans and was therefore 'tainted'...

    Got the gig tho!

No, reading a book called 'The Nazi Party' by 'can't actually find it now' but it tells of how Hitler ruled by 'you sort it' politics, no rules, no edicts, nothing much written down apart from ones that got his goat up, he more or less left it the various NASDP leaders to sort it themselves.

Of course they ran roughshod all over each other, sacking people, creating pointless organisations, trying to oppose each other, a real mess but at the end of the day as far as official records show, Herr Hitler did nowt much except look at models of Germania and the Welthaupthalle and occasionally bugger up his generals plans.

Hence the holocaust deny-ists claiming there's no record of AH ever sanctioning any Final Solution because he didn't - he just said to his many underlings - sort it - and they tried and we know what happened.

Fascinating stuff, i'll get the book's author when it's light, it's in the unlit conservatory and I can't see the book ends....

I'm no Hitler apologist before anyone starts, he was evil personified but like any nutter, he excused his behaviour by some sort of justification, and after reading I feel he did it by the fact 'I never said do THAT..' when in fact he did mean do that but distanced himself by being very vague and more or less conveying an idea rather than a direct order.

    This stuff is worth reading.
