I don't visit the BBC website anymore, haven't done for years. If I want to know something I skip straight to the Labour party website instead and get it straight from the horse's mouth.

I really like the current BBC home page. Love being able to configure each panel so the stuff I look at regularly is at the top of the page and then other items are lower down. Like being able to choose how many stories from each type of news are displayed. Not keen on the beta as can't see any way of configuring it to be able to see what I want to see. I would say if it ain't broke why waste licence fee payers money on something that is not needed. Meddling for meddling's sake IMO. Would like to see a FOI request as to what market research they conducted to make the decision that a redesign of their site was really needed. Surely this money could have been best spent elsewhere.

According to k2p2's link you are in the minority by using the customisation. From the other comments there I assume they analysed their web logs.

As for money being better spent elsewhere, I have often wondered about the BBC's approach to being competitive. Take Oscar Peterson for example. ITV got there first, and it was a minority interest. What did the BBC do but put on another Oscar Peterson show on directly clashing with ITV's show? I really never understood that one, and being before the days of video recorders fans had to choose one or the other.

I hadn't realised it but I do use the the click and lift method, especially when using the typically small desk that many hotel rooms have:

It's a vital maneuver for when you hit the edge of the mouse pad when dragging something, and need to get more room. P.S. I haven't used a mouse pad in years. All my meeces work perfectly well on the desk tops I have at home and work.

Same here. I generally want the UK news rather than what it decides to give me, so have that bookmarked.

Looks like it was designed to be used on a Tablet or Smart Phone, swipe left and right to change the main panel. Annoying with a mouse.

I'm not a great fan of those sideways scrolling thingies either (carousels, to give them their proper title) - they're OK for things like mini-slideshows, but not for the primary content. Unfortunately they're the fashion at the moment

It worked so well at boo.com who started that trend off.

Thinking about it I think the page would work perfectly on a tablet but its a pile of ... in a window on a big desktop.
