I was in Romania in 1985, commie time, the whole place and everyone seemed to stink of Roast Chicken Crisps, so much so I can't stand them now.

The jungley bit I was in stunk of oil. Waste from the oil and gas extraction plant just ended up in big pits. Wandered round Medan and that stunk of fungus.Indonesia smelt nice

Not true where I am.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostOn mainland Europe you are never far away from the faint whiff of sewerage.
Stepping off the plane in Africa, a mixture of charcoal smoke and sweet smelling flowery hits you. Every time you think "Great to be back here again".Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostI liked Cyprus, be it grilled meat on charcoal or jasmine in the courtyard gardens, everywhere smells beautiful... what do they do with their shit?
But let's not forget the UK.
Leaves burning on a crisp and sunny autumn day,
Or the smell of freshly mown hay,
That mix of petrol and freshly mown lawn on a hot summer's day,
The scent of heather on the moors where it's also peacefully quiet,
The aroma of a rose garden, and the tinkling of a stream,
The smell of smoke from log fires as it drifts down the dale,
All these things are pleasant.
Reality check: it's usually pouring down and too cold to enjoy

I have loads of stories about Cyprus. Did you know the temperature "officially" never used to go above 90f because above that temperature civil servants could go home early.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostI've been walking in the Troodos mountains and driven up mt Olympus a few times.
Isn't ddt everywhere though?
At least the DDT got rid of malaria. Regarding asbestos,
I found this for you:

I've been walking in the Troodos mountains and driven up mt Olympus a few times.Originally posted by Paddy View PostI found an open cesspit at the back of a taverna. BTW the whole island was sprayed with DDT in the 1950s and it is now in the food chain. Mount Olympus has a huge asbestos mine but people still picnic on the mountain while there are inspectors with protective clothing checking the contamination.

California smells nice. I know it's not a country but it's as big as one.
