The old one was poor but the new one is the dog danglies. Hence the 9 to 10 month wait.

Hmmm, I recently tried to get a good cash deal on an X3 BMW. The BMW dealers virtually laugh at you, there's a 9 to 10 month waiting list for them.

Total illusion. No-one ever pays list price for either, but the BMW options soon add up to a fortune. The "clever" deprciation calcs are always based on list prices so you never see the actual figures. Also Bimmers are getting cheaper as they are so ubiquitous.Originally posted by SimonMac View PostI'm thinking more the deprecation will be less on a 5 Series than a Jag

The last 3 years we've had big dumps, powerful rwd cars with wide types are pathetic in those conditions.Originally posted by wim121 View PostCant be as useless as my fiat punto in the snow!
Snow is so rare (couple of years every decade) and so light in the UK, winter tyre sales never really took off. In US states and other countries worldwide, you can rent/buy winter tyres a lot more easily/cheaply .....
I quite fancied a BMW diesel but I can't afford to be off the road.

Cue boring winter tyre thread from our teutonophile friends.

Would love an XF but with the mileage I do it would be almost worthless after 3 years

I still like the XJS, it's just a pity you have to spend so much money on them to sort out all the problems they had.Originally posted by wim121 View PostThere are even some older XJR's that offer more toys than new cars and are trouble free ...
I dont know if the owner wants to buy new or slightly used to avoid massive depreciation?
IMHO, I detest and hate the XF. As far as im concerned, owning a jag is about beauty and how it makes you feel. The XF has that angry gritted mouth as a grill and is far from sexy.
I really liked the XJR and yes, although the recent XK seems like it was made on a budget in some respects, it is a beautiful car. Saw one a while back in a car park and lingered around oggling it.

Got a beemer, very competent but can't seem to see it as anything other than 'efficient'. As for a Mondeo - very sensible choice, cheap, does the job, loads of space for a family full of stuff. It's a different conversation, you don't buy the Jag just to lug your stuff around and it's a totally different price bracket. You don't need the Jag, same as you don't need a fancy watch, you just want it.

WPBS. I have a 10 plate Mondeo Titanium X. Loads of gadets, USB, Digital Radio (which is excellent) Bluetooth, 6 CD changer, Leccy seats, Auto lights and wipers, adaptive auto headlamps, Keyless entry etc etc.Originally posted by Peoplesoft bloke View PostDunno what gadgets you like but the Mondeo has a lot for not much - loads of later (post 07) models have usb stereo connections and voice commands - the iPod connection and voice control were options on the Jag until recently - and it's far easier (and cheaper) to find a Mondeo with HID lights.
Comfortable and drives nicely on long trips.
Oh, and the boot is huge. Easily got all Sons kit, including his bike, in the back to bring him home from Uni.Last edited by DaveB; 21 June 2011, 09:54.
