The chances are you would have to give them to the hotel yourself if you booked direct though, most hotels will want the information so they can charge for last minute cancellation.

I don't think you can really blame laterooms for the situation, I mean it's one thing if you booked a package holiday with thomas cook but when you use a booking service you chose to give the hotel your CC details one way or another the moment you book. It's probably better that it happened like this than them going on a spending spree while you were there and leaving you high and dry with a maxed out card and a bit of difficulty persuading the CC company that only half the transactions were yours.

Puts a bit of a downer on the holiday though.

Yes. In fact I spoke to Laterooms and they said that they always pass on the card details to the hotel as a matter of course. My argument is that it does not say that on their website not does it say that in their T&Cs.

Be thankful you used your credit card and not your debit.

People always treat me strangely when I explain I have a credit card I use for only online things, then seperate cards for everything else.

Im sure you already know, but dont worry, you wont have to pay the charges.

I looked at one of those a few months ago, for the same reasons, and was definitely unhappy with the Ts & Cs.

Thank goodness I didn't listen to the Yanks last year who were trying to persuade me that using a CC over the net was the most secure way to pay. Given their banking system, it might be safer than paying by cheque, but I don't live in the US.

Oh bugger! Sorry to hear that, but I'm sure you'll get the money back. I've worked on an e-commerce app or two and was pretty horrified by what ended up being stored in the database.
