Beware: Another Scam

Booked a four star hotel in Istanbul with Laterooms. Having booked with them previously I never suspected my card details including the security number would be forwarded to the hotel. The rest you can guess. Someone has gone on a spending spree with my credit card details in Istanbul.

Oh bugger! Sorry to hear that, but I'm sure you'll get the money back. I've worked on an e-commerce app or two and was pretty horrified by what ended up being stored in the database.
I'll think about getting one of those pre-paid credit cards in the future.

I looked at one of those a few months ago, for the same reasons, and was definitely unhappy with the Ts & Cs.

Thank goodness I didn't listen to the Yanks last year who were trying to persuade me that using a CC over the net was the most secure way to pay. Given their banking system, it might be safer than paying by cheque, but I don't live in the US.

Theres another one doing the rounds where posters of a well known forum promise to reveal secrets in exchange for +ve rep, they take the payment but don't send the goods.

Be thankful you used your credit card and not your debit.

People always treat me strangely when I explain I have a credit card I use for only online things, then seperate cards for everything else.

Im sure you already know, but dont worry, you wont have to pay the charges.

I suppose this may be potentially common in that many hotels require credit card details upon booking in, so they can charge you if you do a runner after wrecking the room.

Maybe it was an oversight to supply the details prior to the booking commencing, but I expect the site (Laterooms) would have a standard operating procedure and therefore may always supply them in this way. As may other hotel booking sites.
