What are you on about jellyhead? I already stated that I HAD voted. I was making the point that if someone elects NOT to vote then that is fine too. It is the option to make that choice that is sacrosanct and is what was worth giving one's life for.
Most other people can get that, but for you that seems to be an intractable concept to grasp. Yet apparently you can quite happily believe in mystical deities. Truly bizarre.

When countries' soldiers die so that a country can achieve democracy, people are generally quite keen to use that new right. Exercising said right is more of a tribute to those who died than posting on CUK Don't vote if you don't want to - I agree it is and should be a choice - but bringing up the memory of the fallen soldiers as an excuse for not voting is pretty crass.

God you really are glacially slow on the uptake. They did not die to protect any particular form of democracy. They died to give you the right to select (or not) whatever form of Democracy you want. That includes the right to be entirely indifferent to the whole notion of bothering to vote at all.
If you can't get that contention to compute in that noodle of yours try and upgrade to a Baboon's intellect and treble your chances.

We had a triple-whammy election here - local council, city mayor, and AV.

The incumbent councillors who failed to lift a finger to save my local did not receive my vote

Apparently there was an election today. I didn't know.

I've just been to the Polling Station and expressed my view on this poorly-contrived AV business. (Just what is the real agenda? And why was it a negative question? Devious sods.)

But they also gave me a slip to vote in the - I presume - local elections. I wiped my arse with it and voted for None Of The Above, as per usual, and then stopped for a chat.

The couple at the table have a private bet going on how many people will turn up. She is cynical and he is very cynical. So far, they have had a little under a 14% turnout and it is looking like they were both over-optimistic.


Maybe it should have been:

Q. Are you against not supporting the move to stop a change to AV or staying with the present system?

Yes ............ [ ]
No ............. [ ]

I reckon WGAS will win.

It'll be a strange outcome if only 14% voted (not saying you're wrong, mind). If they voted YES, then I suspect there'll be loud calls to run the ballot again (until we get it right....). And if the vote is NO, the Lib dems will again call for another chance of a ballot, but with less luck.

I'd say instead of worrying about voting system people should worry about poor security - no ID checks, no police armed with machine guns, using pencil ffs to vote - why not pen, preferably permanent?
