Nothing new, PR companies have been doing it for years. It's also one of the things HBGary Federal were planning as part of their anti Anonymous plan to get cash from federal agencies. The problem is, they are very very easy to spot, even when being moderated by a real human being, and consequently do more to discredit the position they are supposed to be promoting.

For those that haven't seen it start Here for an insight into the thinking of the kind of people who come up with these things and what can happen as a result.

Go Here for all the juicy details of just how HBGary and Aaron Barr got taken apart by Anonymous.

I'm not sure they need bother, given some of the ignorant cretins the USA lets loose on t'Internet already:

"If you want to feel better about this earthquake in Japan, google ‘Pearl Harbor Death Toll.’"
"Thanks for the surprise attack Pacific Ocean!"
"'The Japanese tsunami was payback for Pearl Harbor' Facebook Group"

    etc. etc.
