We stopped using torture centuries ago not just because it is cruel, but because it does not work.

For a recent example, the evidence for WMDs also came from torture (follow the links from the original story). That is, the whole basis for the war against Iraq was based on false information given under torture.

Torture is an unreliable tool. The USA does not yet know that as it is too young a nation to 'remember' that knowledge from medieval times, so it has to make the mistake for itself.

No doubt. We could drop you behind enemy lines and you could bore them all sh*tless whilst the rest of us surround them.

Of course I would have take account of the poor quality of squaddies at my disposal.
Thats fantastic, we will have moved from Lions being led by donkeys, to Lions being led by monkeys,
we could have poppy day one week and banana day the next, in your honour.

'Granpa Sas, what did you do in the war ?'
'well young shaver m'lad, I did brilliant movements against the enemy'
'Granpa sas, what does that mean ? brilliant movements against the enemy''

'well young shaver m'lad, at the first sign of danger, I dropped such a load in me keks, the doctors said it was the most brilliant movement they had ever seen'

Of course in your simple little world, it is very cut and dried. However, back in the real world it is very different. Not the only arena your complete lack of knowledge leaves you with an eggy face though eh?
Top Tip, if you are going to attempt to come across as having any valid knowledge of the workings of the Services, try delving a bit deeper than Commando Comics.

They DID know that...............it was called evaluation of circumstances and appropriate action taken. I'd have been released shortly after along with all the other hostages that were endowed with the grey matter to calculate the odds.
As for you, I suppose the Soviet Military set great store by having officers that would hightail it blindly into impenetrable forest at the first sign of a tricky decision do they?
    No wonder you emigrated!!!
