I've never worn a scarf and I'm not sure I could start now. Are they any good? I only started wearing a hat a year or so ago, a cheap thing (Poundshop £1), which is okay(ish). At least it's an entry into the world of hat wearers. What type do you wear?

Snowboarding beanie type hats. Although these days when snowboarding I wear a crash helmet.

In the UK, Snow and Rock, Ellis Brigham, Cotswold Outdoors, Blacks etc are good places to start.

Ski wear tends to be quite expensive and often not that warm in and of itself because a) skiing & boarding are high intensity activities so you keep warm from the activity and b) it's often designed to be layered so on especially cold days you add a fleece under your skiing jacket.

For just keeping warm around town I have a down filled jacket, hat, gloves and scarf and some proper boots and warm walking/hiking socks do the trick. Thermal underwear is good when it's really cold, I do find if I'm out for an hour or more in the extreme cold jeans alone don't cut it.

Layering is good, especially in the UK where most of the time it isn't going to be below freezing all day every day I find my down coat can be overkill except for a week or two.

I've looked at some of the clothes in Kathmandu which was of some interest when I looked, pricey though.

I was also looking at a shop in town that sells all sorts of military clothing. Ignoring the weirdo, nutter, camouflage stuff, they also stocked warm looking very heavy coats (including great coats!) for a reasonable cost, which I thought I'd take a second look at. I'll try getting some heavier socks and thermals. I've not worn walking/hiking socks before. Saves turning the heating on.

I am bound to see it as Dartmoor is only around 10 miles away. Quite happy not to get stuck in it though, unless I am on a Call-Out, and on time-and-a-half at least.

Will be a "normal" winter, whatever that is.

Precipitation below normal, could be good then (I thought global warming meant more!) i.e. smattering of snow for decoration.

At my last abode in a cold bit of the UK both the postman and the milkman recommended ladies tights (worn underneath the trousers).

Works for me, though I prefer the feel of stockings and suspenders.

Hmmm, so far the wisdom of crowds are indicating a cold winter in the UK.

The question was "will we see snow" and there was no option for "a bit". We'd nearly see some snow every winter but that doesn't imply a heavy snowfall or a cold winter like last year.

I think the poll needs another option.

If it snows in Glasgow, I don't see it. Very rarely snows where I live. Gulf stream and all that jazz.....

I certainly see it on the Clyde coast, couldn't move the car for a week last winter.
