Last place I worked on-site, I was next to a guy who got really frustrated when he couldn't see the bug in his code... swearing really loudly, but under his breath, so to speak, slamming hand on the desk. A little disconcerting but he was aware of it and joked about it himself so filed under 'harmless'.

People who listen to their iPods while coding in a quiet office, and then breathe incredibly noisily like an asthmatic Darth Vader wrestling with a partially inflated set of bag pipes.

I worked with a guy who spoke out loud every piece of code he wrote so you would get a constant running commentary 'Now I'm going to move this variable to that variable and then divide the two....'. Drove us nuts. Thankfully that was years ago. Currently we have a woman who belches all the time, a ball scratcher and a furtive nose-picker to contend with.

Yes, and bloody irritating when the floor transmits the vibrations.

Most of the places I've worked at, I've been sat near somebody who talks to themselves. It's kind of comforting to have around once you've got used to it.

    "Vibroleg" is also pretty common.

Knew a contractor with mild Tourettes who was unwittingly hired for 1st line support.

He used to keep telling users to F..F..F..F**k off down the phone.

He didn't last long. In fact, he is probably one of you lot.

Maybe, but I thought that was the other half of a 'tac'.

Isn't it spelt "tic"? I don't have any workmates to comment on, and none of them tell me I have such issues either

    Strange ticks

No, not the arachnids that attach themselves to your body, but funny habits that people have. One of the testers in my ‘team’ has a habit of slapping the side of his jaw with his hand every few minutes or so. I asked him if there was a mosquito problem in the office and he told me straight out ‘no, it’s a habit of mine; I don’t know why I do it’.

Any other unusual ticks that your workmates have shown? Amuse us!
