Thanks for the kind offer, but I'm quite picky about shoes and I find the cheap ones are usually the best. I'm 6'2", why would I want a pair of shoes with 2 inch heels that make you feel as if you are constantly walking down hill?

You should give Primark another go, the prices are incredible.

I think your theory around the cheapest being the best, has been blown apart by your own admission.

Buy a wrong size pair of trainers just because they were cheap? What a great chap you are! There are all sorts of remedies, like cut a hole in the heel and glue a bit of plastic bottle on. I assume a sensible chap like yourself will have a shed full of old bits of things just in case they might come in useful.

If that doesn't work, well, they were CHEAP and that's all that really matters in life.

PS I put an expensive (I had not seen the light back then) pair of leather motorcycle gloves in a microwave to dry them out once. Not a good plan, they came out like liquorice crisps.

You make cheapness sound unimportant.

After another warm soaking and walking session today I think they are sadly heading for the bin. So plan A will be to mend my existing trainers, whose soles are flapping about a bit. I had previously tried carpet glue and araldite on them, but neither is up to mending shoes. I suppose I could buy another pair, they were only about a tenner when new, but they are nicely worn in and comfy so it would be a shame to bin them too.

How about sticking them in the oven at gas mark 6 for half an hour?

I could give it a go. Other suggestions I've seen include getting someone who has a size larger feet than yourself to wear them for a bit.

Oddly enough I end up doing this every Friday and Saturday and my shoes fit perfectly... Hmmm...
