Deprimo is a spell which places immense downward pressure upon a target, which may cause the target to fractureOriginally posted by MarillionFan View PostAlso had a quick chat with James Dyson about it who was there. I mentioned to him about the Coandă effect as I had heard this wasn't new. He joked! 'that it was magic' before eventually saying it utilizes something called the Deprimo effect???

Forgot about this until the missus just reminded me.Originally posted by SupremeSpod View PostSo MF, have you bought a fan yet? Should come in useful now tha the weather has turned to tulipe!
Had a chance to see one of these at the weekend at Vintage.
There was a complete Dyson stand(obviously they think its cool to be a style company).
Saw one. Stuck my hand through, checked it out etc. Pretty cool, but didnt produce much air flow IMO.

You know, the usual CUK one where someone presents an argument and it's full of holes.

Originally posted by MDHelicoptersUsing the natural characteristics of helicopter aerodynamics, The NOTAR®anti-torque system provides safe, quiet, responsive, FOD-resistant directional control.
The enclosed variable-pitch composite blade fan produces a low pressure, high volume of ambient air to pressurize the composite tailboom.
The air is expelled through two slots which run the length of the tailboom on the starboard (right) side, causing a boundary-layer control called the "Coanda Effect". The result is that the tailboom becomes a "wing", flying in the downwash of the rotor system, producing up to 60 percent of the anti-torque required in a hover. The balance of the directional control is accomplished by a rotating direct jet thruster .
In forward flight, the vertical stabilizers provide the majority of the anti-torque, however directional control remains a function of the direct jet thruster.
The NOTAR®anti-torque system eliminates all of the mechanical disadvantages of a tail rotor, including long drive shafts, hanger bearings, intermediate gearboxes and ninety-degree gearboxes.Last edited by SupremeSpod; 1 July 2010, 09:58.

From your same wikipedia articleOriginally posted by minestrone View PostNo, that is completely wrong, the helicopter uses the third law of motion.
From wikipedia...
"The Coandă effect is the tendency of a fluid jet to be attracted to a nearby surface"
There is no nearby surface on these devices.
Expects churchill to post the first link on google with NOTAR and Coanda in it.

Answer : They both use the Coanda effect to replace the use of rotating blades.
Hth. However, I doubt it.
