    Hth. However, I doubt it.
Hang on - I mentioned the 'avrocar' but you said that was wrong or something. Yet that works the same way as the tail boom under discussion.

Not wishing to join this argument, just a little confused which way you're going here.
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.
threadeds website, and here's my blog.

      Only asking like!
I never did find out if the fan was any good. I have found out that a helicopter uses the Coanda effect but may be dangerous for the kids if I put an Apache in their bedroo
      .

I have also discovered that both Minestrone and Spod are quite capable of arguing over the size of a gnats chuff for about 3 days.

No, that is completely wrong, the helicopter uses the third law of motion.

            From wikipedia...

"The Coandă effect is the tendency of a fluid jet to be attracted to a nearby surface"

There is no nearby surface on these devices.

Expects churchill to post the first link on google with NOTAR and Coanda in it.

              From your same wikipedia article

"The McDonnell Douglas YC-15 and its successor, the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III, also employ the effect. The NOTAR helicopter replaces the conventional propeller tail rotor with a Coandă effect tail."

Well that is wrong. It uses the Coandă effect as much as a hair dryer.

You're wrong. In fact you're too stupid to realise that you're wrong.

                  From the manufacturers themselves... http://www.mdhelicopters.com/v2/notar.php

The enclosed variable-pitch composite blade fan produces a low pressure, high volume of ambient air to pressurize the composite tailboom.
The air is expelled through two slots which run the length of the tailboom on the starboard (right) side, causing a boundary-layer control called the "Coanda Effect". The result is that the tailboom becomes a "wing", flying in the downwash of the rotor system, producing up to 60 percent of the anti-torque required in a hover. The balance of the directional control is accomplished by a rotating direct jet thruster .
In forward flight, the vertical stabilizers provide the majority of the anti-torque, however directional control remains a function of the direct jet thruster.
The NOTAR®anti-torque system eliminates all of the mechanical disadvantages of a tail rotor, including long drive shafts, hanger bearings, intermediate gearboxes and ninety-degree gearboxes.
