I have played the drums for nearly 30 years. Started out playing the snare for a couple of years then progressed up, if you do it that way you advance quicker in later years but 2 years of Podemski is not a bundle of laughs. Buying a kit is pretty simple now, a decent roland digital kit can be got for about 500 quid and nobody gets upset by the noise. i'll probably fork out a couple of grand on my next one.

Oh! I assumed your post the other day about someone being born in 1980 being 30 was referring to yourself.

If you are going to be a drummer you better be good and have understanding neighbours otherwise you will get noise abatement notices.

Mind you when a drummer moved in next to me years ago I was very happy as he got rid of the moaning neighbours underneath us who couldn't understand if you move into a non-soundproofed house converted into flats then you get to hear everyone around you.

One of the best bands I saw had a lady drummer. She was really good.

Although I must say the short shorts and especially the string vest, was way distracting.

Do you live in Winchester? A contractor mate of mine that lives in Winchester is doing exactly the same thing. He's an old g*t as well. Funny if you were him!

I heartily recommend "The Rhythm Method" by Nicky Forbes (Rocky Rhythm from the Rev\zillos). A brilliant biography. Even if you are not a drummer well worth a read for anyone that remembers the late '70's.
