Hmmm.... some northerners dislike the south as they believe you all think you're better than us... wonder why they think that

I was born up north. I get it in the neck from all sides as my older brother, parents were all Glaswegian. I don't feel as if I belong anywhere, not up north, London, Scotland. Lived in various places, have no identity but I do have a yorkshire accent. And I don't dis-like southerners apart from when they put on a faux northern accent and think they are being funny (do they think I haven't heard it a million times before??).

Some Scots are bigoted.... but so are some southerners. Saying that, my mother used to get really pissed off with Scots who rabbited on about hating the English and how great Scotland was (especially when living in England), she'd call them "professional Scots".

Re everyone voting Labour, no-one I know in my home-town votes Conservative, ever. You can't find anyone who does (or they won't admit it). Something to do with Thatcher I believe and there now being no fishing industry, no factories left, highest unemployment in the country.. goes on and on. But Labour also got voted off the local council as they were equally hated for being inept and corrupt. I do sometimes get confused at the voting situation as not sure what Labour have done to improve jobs up north either in the last decade.

That would really sweeten the deal!

It's not Scots that are the real problem. They are a different country and should be respected for it. If they want Independence then so be it.

However, can we sell them most of northern England as part of the devoice settlement? Most of 'em have merde for brain, vote Labour and rabbit along in some unintelligible nonsense.

As for leaders in England: ban lawyers and Oxford graduates from ever holding office.

I have, however, been on the wrong end of anti English hatred in all those places, and I can’t fail to notice that Scotland and England seem to be fundamentally different in political terms. I would prefer a peaceful, friendly union, but I just don’t know whether it’s worth believing in that any more. Perhaps it really is better to go for independence.

If you want to know why Scotland votes differently to the south of England countryside dwellers , well look no further than Thatcher.

She destroyed what used to be a tory heartland.

Personally I'm all for independence, if I lived there.

    WHS.

I've been spat at in Wales and barely tolerated in Scotland.

Just let it go, you'll be happier without it... (I know I would be.)
And I've been abused in England for being Scottish ...

I don't go around tarring the whole of England as hating the Scots. Not all Scots hate the english, it's usually just banter, but there's always idiots that take it to far.

You don’t need hard borders. There are no border controls between Holland and Germany and the level of wealth is the same either side of the border as people work and shop in the same places. Really; the only clue that you’re entering Germany just 20 minutes drive from my house is that the road signs are yellow instead of blue.
