Multiple things for me, listed below in no particular order.

Having to rely on myself to find work. Feels like master of your own destiny.
I love changing jobs frequently (new companies, people, environment).
No permie crap to put up with.
Having the choice to take time off when I want to.
Keeps my skills sharp having to prove myself all the time and not getting comfortable in a permie role.
Money is good but it’s the fact that you can have extended time off on practically full pay (assuming war chest is healthy)

I work for money. If i didn't need to, I wouldn't work. I didn't turn professional at golf and snooker (snooker, cos I maybe wasn't good enough, and maybe cos I was stupid) because they would have become jobs... Work.... Hard work. And I would have nolonger enjoyed them.

I am into the 4th month of this lovely break from work with over 5 weeks to go until I return to Blighty. The flexibility of contracting knocks permie work into a cocked hat. Or something. I've also had some local beer. End of communique.

I would probably give up doing IT if I had to go back to permie wages.

I would only go perm for more money, if it included 12 weeks paid holiday a year, and no appraisals or objective setting.

It is not possible for the kind of person who does my kind of work to be a permie. Many organisations have tried, but it just never happens for them.

I think the government has quotas that would force companies to take on t he "kind of person" you are

I have voted yes - for equivalent positions, if the permie position paid c10-15k more net i would do it.

£15k PA is my price for putting up with permie tulip like performance reviews etc.

The only thing that would make me go permie is a very well paid senior management position within 10 kms of my house so I can cycle to work and back. The likelihood of this is approximately 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%, but not entirely impossible.

I am working for the money, but I am doing that work as a contractor rater than as a permie for other reasons.
