It also has a web browser, and now, a direct link on the menu to BBC iPlayer "big" interface.
The Wii has now got dedicated iPlayer software as well. Seems to work really well.

should we go for, the wii, the ms one or the sony one ?
Personally I'd go for the Wii. Games like Super Mario Galaxy are just amazing. Or if you're like old school games (C64/NeoGeo/Snes/MegaDrive/arcade)then the Wii has loads of classics you can play from its virtual console store.

    Thanks for the info.

Big question really is, is there any way to turn it into a DVR, especially one that can record Sky? I've seen some stuff about Play TV for the PS3 but can't actually figure out if it would be able to record from Sky a Sky box or just Digital Terrestrial.

If so that would probably be the clincher.

MrsB wants Sky+, Son wants PS3 and we need at new DvD so might as well go for Blu Ray. IF I can do all three in one box then it's worth it.

Son keeps nagging to get one but at ~£200 + cost of any games I'm reluctant, knowing it;s likely to end up gathering dust under the telly.

I know it can be used as a Blu-Ray player as well but are there any other options? General media player, DVR etc that it can be used for?
I stream torrented movies from my computer upstairs to the Xbox which is handy, I think you can do the same with the PS3.

The Xbox has a HD movie download service, not sure about the PS3 but it does have BBC iPlayer as does the Wii.

You an use it as a media extender, so if you have media servers on your home network, it can pick up and play that content on your big telly.

There is also a playstation store where you can download movies & other content.

It also has a web browser, and now, a direct link on the menu to BBC iPlayer "big" interface. This actually seems to give half decent playback on the big screen and seems to hang less than on the PC. You can also watch the other on-demand services, but you have to use the browser to get to them.

Also, if you get the slim version, and a TV with Bravia Link (or whatever the non-Sony TVs call the same thing) you can control it all with your TV remote.

It is probably the reason that some english people say "Ta".

Tack is also used in Polish and Russian as a signal of agreement.

I think the Wii would suit you fine. The control system's far better for newcomers than the more hardcore-oriented consoles...

The Wii, it must be said, is slightly rubbish.

I bought mine for Wii Fit and that IS very good and its probably worth it just for that. I found myself becoming bored with the other games as they seemed to be written for the control system rather than paying attention to the game itself. Granted i only played 2 other games but got sick of the 'wacky' control method pretty quickly. The sports and bowling etc is a giggle if you have a few people round but gets boring after 10 mins. Rayman Rabbids thing is good too, but again, got bored of waggling a stick at a screen very quickly.

I've got a PS3 too and that gets more use both as a Blu-Ray player and a top notch games system.

So, if i could only have one it'd certainly be the PS3 but i'd miss honing my Warrior pose on Wii Fit a bit.
