I think GP's assertion is ludicrous - there is a long and honourable tradition in British visual humour of using gravestones. They turn up pretty regularly in the cartoons in Private Eye for example, and there have been innumerable examples in TV shows, such as the episode of One Foot in the Grave where a friend of Victor Meldrew surprises him with an unexpected gift - a ready-engraved headstone with the date of death left blank.
