    I was terrible for wasting bread. I'd buy a new loaf every Tuesday, might have 2 or 4 slices then forget about it till the following Tuesday and have to throw it out.
    Now I freeze it and toast as required

    Is there a smilie for sarcasm? My comment got taken literally.

    I get fed up when things get thrown away because they have exceed this or that date. Just smell the damn thing! I have only ever suffered food poisoning when I have eat out, not as a result of stuff eaten at home.

    Risking £x00s in billable time to save £3.50 seems a bit of a risky strategy to me. May I also say that allowing yourself to get into this situation shows a distinct lack of planning on your side. I think you need to look at the processes you have in place at the alternate chez cojak to prevent future occurences.

    I survived the night!

    I'm right as rain and am feeling virtuous that I didn't waste the meal.

    (The fact that it cost over £3.50 as well meant that I didn't waste my money - the main reason for this experiment... )

    Germany too. My missus worked in a couple and saw them doing it which is why we never buy meat in a supermarket now. I know a person who runs a burger/wurst/etc. stand at fairs and I've seen them in the supermarket buying all the old sold by date meat, yeeeuch!

    People used to shop daily so there was no need for "best before" or "use by"
    If you get the chance to go on holiday to a 3rd world country visit a local
    market or souk. The meat you buy there was alive yesterday whereas in Europe it was probabily imported from NZ. The supermarkets will do their best to cheat so the Govt uses "best before" or "use by" dates for your peace of mind. They still cheat.Your local Butcher would not have cheated as his reputation was at stake.

    I bought an Innocent chunky soup last week at my lodgings but never got around to eating it.

    The Best Before date was yesterday but now even the government says that we can eat stuff after the BB date.

    But there was a definite sour/fermenting taste to it.

    I'll let you know if I (or at least my bowels) survive the night.
