    Agree, the C5, bought one at 80,000k now done 230,000 with no failures. Diesel getting 55 mpg doing 70+++ down the motorway

    Go for cheap and Japanese, our Almera has done over 100K now and in those 100,000 miles not a single thing has ever gone wrong with it, never missed a beat.

    My newer Peugeot on the other hand suffers some form of new catastrophic failure every other day and has probably cost me 10x what the Almera is worth in repairs alone.

    I'd probably aim for a Focus or Civic or even an Astra, should be able to get one in that budget which will do the job.

    Trawl through Autotrader and you will find loads of candidates.
