Ford Focus is good these days but one that cheap is going back a few years, not sure they were as reliable then?Originally posted by BlackenedBiker View PostI need a car for the winter to do 110 miles per day.
Brief:
Cost £1K-£2K
Economical
Petrol (NOT DIESEL)
Any ideas
Toyota Corolla perhaps, or a Civic.

Go for cheap and Japanese, our Almera has done over 100K now and in those 100,000 miles not a single thing has ever gone wrong with it, never missed a beat.
My newer Peugeot on the other hand suffers some form of new catastrophic failure every other day and has probably cost me 10x what the Almera is worth in repairs alone.

Citroen C5, cheap as chips, cushioning hyrogas suspension...forget buying an older 'more reliable car' it won't be due to the age differencial and small cars are bad VFMOriginally posted by BlackenedBiker View PostI need a car for the winter to do 110 miles per day.

I think every thread we have had like this has boiled down to a civic or a focus or bothOriginally posted by TykeMerc View PostI'd probably aim for a Focus or Civic or even an Astra, should be able to get one in that budget which will do the job.
Trawl through Autotrader and you will find loads of candidates.

Something like this.

Cheap, still looks modern, plenty of cheap servicing and spares, highly regarded handling.
