I worked with a bloke last year who fell asleep fairly regularly at his desk, but he was a gun contractor and virtually running the project so he got away with it by calling them power naps. If you are good you can get away with murder, if you are average you can get away with quite a lot, if you are crap become a model contractor.

When I returned to my current banking client 3 years ago, bumped into someone who'd been contracting there for 4 years.

Got talking as you do and he told me it was his last week. Asked him why he was leaving but he was just a little evassive.

Found out after he'd gone that he'd asked awkward questions and asked why they needed to do this and that etc, etc at a forum presented by the IT Director.

    Ho hum!

On a NETA utilites project I worked on back in 2001, a fair number of people were sacked for one reason or another which was mainly publicised as 'losing the confidence of the business.'

One contractor who liked a pint (or 6) at lunchtime, came back and promptly fell off his chair in the middle of a packed office. Shown the door!

Another contractor disagreed with someone on the best way to resolve a problem. Only thing was, the whole office heard. Shown the door!

Another contractor on a project I worked on was sacked for having the most appalling bad breath. It smelt like he'd eaten a cat that had been dead for a month. No one could bear being in meetings with him even on the other side of the desk!

I was 'known' to be shagging a female work colleague on a number of projects I worked for the same client between 1997 and 2001. Never got me sacked or stopped the frequent extensions(!) though!

They don't mess about at my current clientco - they just instantly disappear never to be heard from again.
I want to work for a company like that! It is tiring seeing companies using crap contractors and keeping them and treating them like permies. Then they act as if we are all the same.

    or......

Another guy doesn't get an extension and then spends the next two weeks showing all the permies and lowly paid contractors what house the clientco. allowed him to buy for cash for his 12 months contract....

Were they Nigerian? An observation I have made is that most Nigerians have two mobiles and spend a long time on them at work. Occassionally when I`ve asked about it, it`s usually met by "talking to my connections" .......or bit on the side.

What the **** has it got to do with client co how or what we spend money on?

Would they rather their contractors turned up in a battered old ford escort?
