Nail on head. A chav will demand respect, without ever earning it (or intending to earn it). They're aware they are most definitely not respected, so that's why it's a sore point with them. Apart from that, hoodies and/or baseball caps are a big giveaway.Originally posted by sasguru View PostTrue. Even then they were demanding Respec without earning it, innit?

Maybe if they had not kept going on strike they would still be employed.Originally posted by sasguru View PostActually Chavs didn't exist in the 80s. Thatcher created them when she destroyed manufacturing and created an underclass of people who would normally have been employed in factories.

Then according to Mrs BP everyone is a chav. Even the queen.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostIt really means: Council tenant, tracksuit, gold chains, illegitimate kids, no job, etc etc.
For some odd reason some people use it as a term to describe anyone who is deemed to be below one’s own social standing.

Yep - I'm with you ont his one TLG - attitude and lack of respect I think.Originally posted by The Lone Gunman View PostAIUI being a chav is a complex thing, but it is mostly about attitude.
There is a look associated with being a chav, but looking like one doesnt make you one (though you are probably well on the way).
Tracksuits with one leg tucked into your white socks or women with scrape backs are sure signs.
It is the F U attitude that really makes a chav. The world owes them a living and they can live how they like. Anybody who questions them in any way is in for a tirade of abuse and possibly physical violence.
They have no respect for anyone or anything and that includes themselves.
