figure out what rate it would really take to make you stay, even if it's ridiculous.
If you really don't want to stay, I'm surprised you're bothering to ask us. Just politely decline.
If they push to know why, say it's a personal reasons if you are living away from home, otherwise, say you have had an offer for a more interesting project elsewhere (ie. not a better offer, as they'll just offer a rate rise that you aren't interested in)

Ask for a performance review and a number of KPI's measured on a daily / weekly basis. Also demand a pay review with a view of a pay increase 40 times the rate of inflation. If they don't agree to any of this, tell them to get someone from India to do it for much cheapness.Originally posted by EternalOptimist View PostI have just been offered an extension but I dont really want it

the grass isnt always greener,
I walked from one bad contract after they tried to enforce a 30% cut from everyones daily rate, served 28 days notice (at full rate) had two months off, got another gig on original rate but now got a 100 mile daily commute and bored stupid!
Depends how many opportunities there are where you live I suppose

WHSDemand a 30% rate increase?
Delay on signing the contract as much as possible. Concoct multiple excuses-it's being reviewed, the dog ate it etc.
Meanwhile look for something better...
