I know my plan is to be out of this country in the next two years, just need to save up the required cash to make it happen now!

A 50% tax rate on those earning over £150,000 doesn't shock me in the slightest. Indeed, it's about time those who have been making those kind of sums thanks to the misguided policies of Blair and Brown started paying something back to the country rather than by running to somewhere where they think they can escape from their responsibilities again. You mention France and its unrivalled early-age schooling and top quality health system - guess how they pay for it? Taxes!

This bit made me giggle;
'GERMANY
Why go? Feels reassuringly British, but things work better'

And in case you hadn't noticed, the recession is global.

How much would cancelling all MP salaries for one year save. Let them have their expense accounts though...I mean they will need to eat.
Let face it...none of the politicians know what to do about this situation. Labour is just trying to buy the next election..and having our kids pay for it.
Frankly I just think about the lifestyle and education my son will have...the UK education system is already tulipe...what will become of it now? Costs of everything else will go up meaning less holidays and less activities.

Predictable moaning but how many of them are able to move, ie their income isn't tied to location and they don't have personal commitments.
A lot of these people are living in expensive London precisely because the location gives them the ability to earn large amounts of money.
I don't have any sympathy for someone earning 150k plus who feels they don't have any spare money and are just living a normal lifestyle. If the former is true the latter certainly isn't.

Cancelling EU membership would save 55 Billion pounds a year and cutting the Scottish annual subsidy of 10 Billion would not lose the Tories any seats.
