I don’t want to blow my own trumpet but there’s a lot of specific knowledge involved with my current role, they’ll find that out when I’m gone and they start getting penalized by the end client, bloody Muppets.

Sadly muppetry is all too common which possibly explains why sizable chunks of British business couldn't tell its arse from its elbow, I'm sure many of the CUK posters have come accross this scenario themselves, I certainly have.

I already do, I've not taken a contract away from home recently for that very reason.

I May have something lined up already, a local gig I laughed at only a few weeks ago. I rang the agent and hoped he didn't remember, it's a security cleared role on crap money and they still haven’t had any takers so it maybe a shoe-in, agent sounded very keen.

I made the mistake of holding out for money before, 4 months on the bench taught me a valuable lesson, better to be doing something as you're always learning and networking no mater how bad it is.

Having to dig deep to remain professional here, they've treated my like 5hit from the start but my thick contractor skin kept most of it from getting to me.

I'll be polishing the bench myself next month unless I get lucky, but whatever happens we'll all be OK in the end.

I wouldn't normally let this get to me but having a 1 year old and a wife that's only just gone back to work part time on 25% of her previous salary whilst I've spent the last 12 months spending my war chest and more because I've been on the worst rate ever, and looking at the likelihood of walking into another gig ...I'd say it has.

Great place to work though.

It's a department of the University, but not an academic one. The project is pretty interesting though: I'll probably get to do some new stuff over and above my existing skills. It's always nice when the client is paying one to improve one's marketability

It's usually out of choice - I'm pretty lucky in usually being able to find a gig when I need one

Yup, I tend to get to sleep slightly earlier when I have to be up in the morning
