Previously on "Can't contractors write better CVs?"
I was offered a role just from a phone interview in July. I actually took up another role, good job too actually as had I taken the 1st role I would have been benched within 8 weeks as the company made drastic cutbacks.
I got a role once from comments/discussion on a web forum.....
I went along "for a chat" and was asked to come back on Monday (and Bill for today)
6 years of contracting and never came across a job where a face to face was not required.

Now, I have just found this CV of this guy who applied recently for a developer role and gave him a call.
His CV is just a list of technical skills, Java 1, 1.1,1.2, 1.3, Web 1.0, 2.0, etc. etc. with not even a single reference to managing projects or people. Now I called him and he tells me that he only wants to manage projects.
So why did he send me the CV for a developer role if he's not interested?
Are developers short of jobs?
I bet he forgot to send me the PM version of his CV.
(vent over - thanks!)
Makes a change for it to be that way round. Most of the email punts I get spammed with from agents have no relevance to my CV whatsoever so I just read them as random acts of desperation from desperate people.

My first was a telephone interview, made a complete t*t out of the bloke doing the technical questions because he didn't have a clue, got the role because the other bloke on the call hated the clueless techie

Normally that's true for me too, but after applying for one contract on JobServe, I had an email the next day saying start on monday, and it lasted six months!
I had the recent unfortunate task of reviewing resumés for a US based role. Not one resumé was less than 12 pages long, and each one seemed to list out every possible menu item available in the application, even down to created a bar chart, created a line chart etc...
