Why would Brown not want disclosure ? I think the evidence is there just waiting to be disclosed, and I am sure it will come out conveniently for the Tories just before the next election.

Call me Dave withdrew the Tory whip from one of his MPs who had questionable expenses but not the other one. Both of them are still in the House and still claiming.

I wish, we desperately need a body to hold MP's to account, and ensure their conduct is in the best interests of the people, and that it is above board. They simpyl CANNOT and SHOULD NOT regulate and investigate their own actions and judgements.

Reality is there is nothing more than bad press as a consequence, maybe a few marginal seat holders will be worried about their ability to hold their seat.

Problem is, the general British public are not only stupid, they also have a shyte memory, give it a month and this will be forgotten by joe and jane public.

Nearly all MP expenses, those of a capital purchase nature, are Benefit in kind as they would benefit from said item once they have left office. One could argue you could depreciate the capital asset over 3-5 years so it's book value is zero, but it's a stretch.

MP's should only be allowed to RENT a second home in London, and then, ONLY if they live further than 1.5 hour's journey outside Westminster.

They should ONLY be allowed to rent FURNISHED accomodation.

They should have NO ALLOWANCE for items for their constituency home as this is there day to day home and it should not be subject to expenses.

Granted they should have a Subsistence allowance of £25 a day when they are sitting in parliament, and their Travel on days in Westminster can be expenses. NO first class travel, if they wish to travel 1st class, they should only be able to expense the cost of an economy and they should fund the rest out of their taxed income.

Cameron has already sacked MPs for expenses fiddles in the past few months. Labour have not and that says it all, even though one was paying a babysitter a salary as an assistant when it has been proven that she did no work for that MP.
Cameron wants full disclosure and said that months ago, so your point is illogical as usual Expat.

If that's true then fair enough. As I say, I'm not overly bothered as long as someone is keeping an independent eye on them. I don't agree with the likes of that tory (Conway?) who took the p1ss by paying a big salary to his son for doing nothing.

Unfortunately, the "Independent" eye they are using is the NAO - sadly not above a bit of junketing themselves - Google Sir John Bourn (the former boss) for more details.

If their employer (us) is paying for second homes expenses, then why can't MPs adhere to the same tax and benefits rules as we all have to?
