ftp, gopher (and indeed archie) and email are the internet. This "web" thing is potentially a good idea though, and might be useful if it gets properly developed.

As another poster once said: it's all been downhill since ftp and gopher. Paradoxically maybe we'll look back one day and see the appalling mess of a protocol 'http' was one of the biggest stumbling blocks.

The Internet Watch Foundation has lifted its ban on The Scorpions' Virgin Killer album cover on Wikipedia:
The IWF now says that given the age and availability of the image, it was no longer on its list of proscribed sites.
EDIT: They also admit to the magnitude of their fail:
