NotAllThere,
it's not the engine running which is the problem, it's the diesel jellifing in the tank and fuel lines if it is not warm enough, hence putting some parafin in with the diesel to thin it during the winter, hence why in the uk some fuel companies offer - winter diesel
Milan.

I was talking to a colleague from Russia. He says they just leave the engine running all winter.Originally posted by TykeMerc View Post...In very cold places it's not that uncommon to add small amounts of petrol to diesel to prevent waxing of the fuel due to low temperatures...

Nope you can use petrol as a solvent for diesel.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostWon't the petrol float on top of the diesel? If so I guess it would never enter the fuel system and just dilute over time.
In answer to the original question you've no real cause for concern, in a compression ignition engine such a small ratio of a light fuel like petrol won't cause problems. You did the right thing adding loads of diesel on top.
In very cold places it's not that uncommon to add small amounts of petrol to diesel to prevent waxing of the fuel due to low temperatures.
Mazda aren't bad engineers either so the hardware should tolerate the very slight pinking caused by the petrol and the solvent action will do the fuel pump and injectors some good.

You'll be fine - pal of mine did similar in his Vauxhall Signum - all sorts of dire predictions from people who reckon they know about cars - but at that level it did no harm in his and you should be fine.
My ex-wife put a whole tankful of unleaded in her diesel citroen once - we borrowed one of those hand pumps from a bloke who runs a car dealers and drained it then filled it with diesel - that car ran at least another 50k miles to my knowledge with no problems.

Add 4 tablespoons of engine oil to balance it out.
Considering it's diluted 100-1 I'd expect it to be OK. Hopefully.

Petrol on Disel Mazda 6..!!
Guys,
I put .58L of Petrol in my 03 Mazda 6 Diesel.
I was confused what to do once I realised my mistake. But straight away I added another 47.5L of Diesel to the car & driven away. Now I am wondering will my Mazda will be in trouble...? Any one else did similar mistake..? I am very much interested to see someone diluted Petrol with Diesel & how its affected their care later..
Please mail back..
