the conservative party? demented, authoritarian swivel-eyed liars and perverts, every last blue-rinsed one of them, and about as good for Britain as the Luftwaffe. i'm no fan of Labour but at least they don't blatantly despise the population they govern.
I grew up in the north during the Thatcher era, and it royally sucked - entire towns out of work - opportunities might have been around in London, but in the provinces it was awful. That being said, with the benefit of hindsight, I can see that mass unionism isn't a great thing to have either.
Regarding the railways, my view is that any essential service which is by definition a monopoly should be nationalised. We currently have franchised rail operators who don't seem to be accountable for the tracks, so everyone can point fingers at each other. No one will ever put in a 2nd set of tracks.
Similarly power, water etc should all be nationalised. It doesn't mean that they can't turn a profit, but IMO they should be run with a focus on providing the service over profits to shareholders.
BA /BL are different, they aren't monopolies anyway, and are already in competition.
Don't worry about it, you've all just been the subject of an experiment in mass hypnosis. It's really 1997 and voting day is tomorrow. Things don't get this bad in reality which is why we've decided to terminate the experiment. What you've experienced is a dommsday scenario dreamt up by some psychologists who will end up working for big brother and/or pulling legs off insects for a living. Sorry about that.
Brown telegraphed his intentions and the price of Gold fell.
Brown sold off buildings worth millions for the average price of £36,000. He sold off the tax offices to a tax haven.
My point exactly Maggie was against ERM, she knew what she was doing, Brown was for it yet constantly holds it up as a tory failure.
If the miners & BL employees had conceded that there would have been job cuts + change and managed it properly then some of the pits would have been closed but many would have stayed open or been mothballed. Leyland might have actually made some reliable cars.

I'll pick fruit if they'll pay me £550 a day. £650 for bananas. I've heard they're harder work. Put me forward and see what they say ... also must be London based, might consider some foreign travel, but I'm not living out of a suitcase in some godforsaken backwater.
